The food in this joint was amazing! And you could tell too by the long lines and waits. I didn't feel rushed though- staff was awesome. There IS a parking issue - hey it's LA. But, don't miss this place. It's divine.
Had dinner at Found Oyster on a Tuesday night and was seated after 10 minutes of waiting. I ordered the Baywatch Platter, bread+anchovies, clam chowder, clam frites, and smoked trout dip. Platter was yummy, but overpriced, especially for the 4 prawns that were difficult to peel and made the hands super dirty. We really liked the smoked trout + bread and anchovies. We were told the clam frites were a special, however realized it's been on the "off the menu" for almost a year; def not worth getting. I wish we got to try the uni, however was told it was unavailable. Wine was good, sake was overpriced for $7 a shot. Overall super yummy, but a bit expensive, we did overeat though :) total came out to be a little over $300 after tax
TLDR: The little (and I mean little) New England spot home away from home, with the freshest seafood (probably worth the price?). Ordered: The 12 Oyster Platter - total $92 (for that day) Now I've had plenty of sushi before, my favorite actually. I've done seafood boils but I've never had a platter quite like this so I can't truly rank this being my first. So I can only say that this is the best I've had. The oysters were dangerously fresh, the sauces they had for each one complimented beautifully I really was having a Ratatouille moment. My least favorite (a La Carte but served on the platter) was the mussels. I LOVE cooked/half backed mussels but that version wasn't hitting for me, perhaps the sauce was throwing me? We had this for two people and I think it was a good amount (once you settled into it and ate real slow haha) Grandmas Bread (w anchovies $7) : 5/5 I'm in my tinned fish Tik Tok era so as soon as our server upsold us on adding the fish I was sold and again it just changed the game on something so simple. Quite the girl dinner alone. The bread was dripping in butter and thick and crunchy. Gorg. Vibe: 4.5/5 Truly only knocking it a tad bc of how small it is. There is some outdoor seating (3 tables) for a party of 4max but just beware, get their early if you need too. Otherwise the interior is divine and the definition of upscale quaint. I recommend sitting at the bar if you want all the action which I love. Service: 5/5 They forgot our drinks ($20) but honestly can't even knock that it was great service they seem all lovely. The total was a humble $182 just in case you were tracking. Parking: 2/5. Street, metered. It's east Hollywood so if you know you know.
This year for Father's Day, Michael planned an outing as a surprise. He picked me up and we drove to a small relatively new restaurant in East Hollywood on Franklin Avenue called Found Oysters due to my somewhat recently discovered love of oysters after shunning them my whole life due to being offered at 19 years old in New Iberia, Louisiana what I can only describe as a slimy eyeball in black tar that was a Cajun oyster that caused me to tear with smoke coming out of my ears. I refused to try one thereafter for almost 50 years until Michael forced me to try one at a Montreal French restaurant in Westwood and I loved it. I then called my friend Pat in New Orleans where I was going to attend JazzFest I believe in 2019 and she took me to every great Oyster joint in New Orleans trying every type of oyster prepared every different way. I have gone to my favorite oyster bars in Nola ever since. We had a platter consisting of two different east coast 1/2 dozen each oysters with lemon, mignonette and cocktail sauce, 4 large jumbo prawns, Sicilian crudo consisting of 4 types of fish and smoked trout, pickled onions and roe dip with tortilla chips. I had a Ghia which is a lemon and salt drink and Michael had an Easy Rider IPA beer. The joint was fun, packed with its small bar and 1 row of tables with a large outdoor street patio. Everything was delicious and then Michael had me guessing the next adventure as he weaved toward downtown to Chinatown to hear former neighbor, DJ and KCRW host, Jason Bentley. Michael's surprise was a hit that I thoroughly enjoyed for Father's Day.
Everything I had was amazing. Oysters are on the pricier side but you get what you pay for - they are meticulously cleaned and presented and they don't give you any subpar oysters. The clams were the best clams I ever had. They put some secret sauce on it to bring out the flavor (I think it's ponzu). You can tell the chef put a lot of effort into each item and each item was very deliberate in how it was crafted. Pro tip: they run out of the steak tartare so go early if that's what you are going for.
I'll start from the end: was it worth the ridiculous cost?? No way!!! Is it a good place? Definitely but it does NOT need to be as extras fine dining. Yes, I know every about pricing, if been in the service industry for years and in sales and marketing for decades. And the owners can price their menu as they see fit but it's a bummer. For example, the vibe here depends on the people u come with, otherwise you'll get bored as hell. The servers behind the bar are nice and professional but not communicative, but hey, I'll probably go there again and see if the crowd and staff and vibe is more fun next time.
Wonderful spot to get some fresh seafood on a beautiful summer day. Outdoor patio can be a bit noisy at times but the food is totally worth it. The Crudo is so buttery it melts in your mouth. The staff was efficient and friendly, even when the place was packed. They don't take reservations so your best bet is showing up right when they open!
I love this place ! My first time visiting service was amazing. Definitely a place to arrive early to grab a seat it fills up fast. The meals are shareable. I prefer to taste little of everything. We had the scallop tostadas & trout dip & snap peas salad with tofu green herb & wedge salad dressing , the grilled cabbage as well and o finish off with the cod sandwich with its fries. It's pretty tight space bar seating and small tables. Bigger parties can sit outside. I didn't notice any bigger dining indoors. Enjoyed a nice bottle of orange wine and had a perfect Sunday lunch. Definitely will come back !
Very cute little restaurant! Found Oyster is a solid place! Came here for their drinks and we loved their wedge salad! Would definitely come here to order that again! Staff here is very attentive and kind, the service here is prompt too! Would recommend for many to come by to check out! We'll have to come again and try their oysters! We opted for their lobster roll and wedge salad, which was very fresh and delish! Thanks again!
First time here and I am obsessed! The oysters were absolutely delicious. They were fresh, creamy and not very briney. The crudo was another pleasant surprise. We got the large which is about 6oz of fish, enough to share for two people. The scallop tostada was so very tasty, a little sweet and a little salty. After all the fresh seafood we had the lobster roll with fries. It was ok but not as good as all the fresh raw seafood. We sat at the bar to and everyone that helped us was very friendly. I wasn't sure which wine I wanted to order and they let me sample a couple of white wines and gave me suggestions. Honestly I would return based solely on the service. I wish I lived closer so I could go back often. This place is easy to miss, had to drive by twice before spotting it. It's located next to a large vegan market.
